Some of the Best Breweries in Tucson are just a short bike ride away from the Armory Park Inn. Who knew that Tucson has one of the most vibrant and fastest-growing craft brewery scenes in Arizona? We did! As a matter of fact, many of the most unique and visit-worthy breweries are located right here in downtown and only a short bike ride away from our Tucson bed and breakfast. So might we suggest you take our adorable 7-speed city cruisers out for a spin and stop by one or two (maybe three?) of these unique craft breweries and experience for yourself why these taprooms in Tucson are putting the Southwest craft beer scene on the map.

Barrio Brewing Company

The word “barrio” means neighborhood which is particularly appropriate for this, my favorite local brewery. Located in our same neighborhood, historic Armory Park, we are pleased to feature their delicious Barrio Blonde Ale and Citrazona IPA at our Armory Hour and our guests couldn’t be happier. Barrio Brewing is one of the oldest and most well-known in Tucson and was founded in 1991 and originally operated out of a small 1,000-square-foot building. Today, it operates out of a 22,000-square-foot facility just a few blocks from the inn that includes a taproom, restaurant, and outdoor patio. Barrio offers a wide variety of beers on tap, including several year-round brews, and seasonal and limited-release beers, and are known for their flavorful and well-balanced beers. In addition to the beers, Barrio also serves a full food menu with a variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. The Lizzy Salad is a personal favorite but the green chili mac and cheese or the Sonoran hot dog are also worth the visit. Barrio hosts a weekly trivia night that is rowdy and fun and we try not to miss it!

Motosonora Brewing Company

My husband and I happened upon Motosonora Brewing Company while we were walking our dog just the other evening and we were delighted with the find. This brewery is pretty new to Tucson’s brewery scene and was founded in 2019 by a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who wanted to create a space where they could share their passion for craft beer and motorcycles. The taproom features a sleek and modern industrial design with plenty of motorcycle-themed decor throughout. They offer a variety of beers on tap, including IPAs, stouts, sours, and more. Some of their most popular beers include the Hop-Topia IPA, the Night Rider Imperial Stout, and the Pinion Pilsner. In addition to their beers, Motosonora also hosts a variety of events and activities, including live music, food trucks, and motorcycle meet-ups. As a Tucson native, I especially love that they are dedicated to supporting the local community and often partner with local charities and organizations to raise money and awareness for important causes.

Pueblo Vida Brewing Company

Pueblo Vida is a popular brewery located in downtown Tucson that specializes in hoppy, flavorful beers made with locally sourced ingredients. Their taproom features a rotating selection of beers, as well as a small food menu and outdoor seating. It was founded in 2015 by three friends who shared a passion for brewing and a commitment to using locally sourced ingredients. The taproom is a welcoming and comfortable space with a modern vibe and plenty of seating. They offer a rotating selection of beers on tap including IPAs, stouts, and other experimental styles and some of the most popular beers include the Modern Times collaboration “Juice Record” IPA, the “Lightning Rod” hazy IPA, and the “Mexico in My Pocket” Mexican chocolate stout. Now that sounds like something I’d like to try.

Crooked Tooth Brewing Co.

Another gem is the Crooked Tooth Brewing Co., a unique and eclectic brewery located in a historic building in downtown Tucson and its taproom features funky decor with exposed brick walls, colorful murals, and vintage furnishings. Crooked Tooth is known for its experimental and creative beer styles, which often incorporate unusual ingredients like hibiscus, tamarind, and prickly pear. Some of their most popular beers include the Pina Piñata IPA, the Sour on the Border raspberry sour, and the barrel-aged Black Mesquite stout. They have a small kitchen but also partner with local food trucks to bring in additional dining options for customers.
